When I was a kid, my neighbor Harvey Prentice was an old ex-navy man. He had several tats. He'd always be out mowing the lawn with his shirt off. All of the ink on his tats had bled and morphed into giant blue blobs that looked like cancerous bruises. I've wanted several tatoos in my life, but thinking of Harvey's melanoma like plague spots on his arms has always stopped me.
No tattoos, although I've wanted one for a while now... The only thing preventing me from doing it is I can't decide what I want.
I do have a couple of piercings, though, and no, I don't mean on my ears, although I also have 2 on both ears π
One is my navel and I'm not telling where the other is... hehe...

I equate tattoos with primitive ritual scarification, sticking bones in your nose, plates in lips, safety pins in your face, etc. Why would anyone intentionally defile themselves in a mistaken effort to be cool?
We do it because of an irresistible urge that must be satisfied in an orgy of fire, blood, and ritualistic sex.

Getting a tatoo is a very personal experience. I don't think that most people who get tatoos do it to be cool. It's an expression who you are at that moment and a reminder of a specific time in your life.
I only have 3 tatoos so far. Nothing outrageous or regretable. Each very meaningfull to me if not to anybody else.
I have one done on my ankle that I want to get covered over. But not because it was a mistake to get it....it was my first one and I wasn't sure if I'd like it so I only got a small one done with my daughters name on it. I wan't something bigger with all three girls names on it now.
Just a warning to anyone who hasn't got one and is thinking about it......they can become addictive.
I have a purple Iris on my ankle, a queen bee on my right shoulder blade and now my new one on my left hip. Besides getting my ankle re-done there's a couple more that I would like to get when the time is right.
The tatoos I have mean a great deal to me for various reasons and even when I'm old and grey and wrinkly like Moldy I'll never regret having them done.
