I have no trouble tailoring my speech to suit the circumstances viz a viz the decorum a given context demands or the sensibilities of those present, but relaxing with friends, talking about certain things, maybe on the outside of a grog or two, I have been known to swear like a trooper, as have the friends I hang out with. It all stops if a stranger sits down with us, until... they turn out to have a potty mouth too, and everyone reverts.
Do you use much profanity?

Not as much as in the past. I've found that "colorful metaphors" only have an impact when rarely used; much like a word or phrase highlighted in red only has an impact on the reader when used in a full page of black text.

@fmf saidI think we know each other well enough that this requires no private answer, but so as to contribute, I do tend to swear quite a bit, rarely in anger, I rarely get angry, but it's more often in 'mock anger'. Mostly I tell my closest friends to F off, if I tell you to F off, you're in....I'm always politeness itself to strangers.

@a-unique-nickname saidAn urban myth, I think. If you said "Frequent profanity use is linked - in some people's minds - with sounding not very intelligent", then I'd agree. I think the use of profanity is rooted in personality, context, and vocabulary.
Frequent profanity use is linked with low intelligent.

Gosh. Some people here eat dog; I have on occasion. But not their own pet dogs! What was your collie's name?

People always apologise if they swear in my presence.
I think I have one of those faces.
@the-grifter saidYour dog has a chess opening named after him/her.

Do you wear your cap?
Have you ever worn a cap, or is it tricky to find one big enough?
