I was just googling my own name (no...nothing to with egos or that...but because another thread was doing the same with our clan name).
Than this link came up: http://www.timeforchess.com/profile/playerprofile.php?uid=60981
It's exactly this site, but it's green and instead of RED HOT PAWN it's called TIMEFORCHESS.
Does anyone know what this is? Is it an evil RHP site from a parallel dimension or something.
I didn't dare log in, but the threads in the forums where identical to the ones here....

Same site. Different address. Handy for those playing at work.
In the help menu it says RHP has four different sites, timeforchess, chessatwork, and redhotchess, and of course redhotpawn. But I can't tell what the point is. The only difference is the color scheme. The help says they're for different people with differences in what they want from their chess site, but I can't see how that is. Why is chessatwork handy for those at work?
Wouldn't it be easier to just pick your color scheme in your settings, than have 4 different websites with different names?
And my last question is, why does everyone refer to the site as redhotpawn if people use other sites? I've never been in the forums and heard someone call this site any of the other names. It seems to me that this would happen given that there is nothing designating redhotpawn as the supreme site. And even if there was, most of the people using the other sites may not know about RHP and might think that theirs is the supreme site as shav did. And those people would be confused as to why we call it RHP here. Unless there is a translator bot in the forums that changes every reference to the site to match the site it is viewed from (that would be cool, but kind of scary. I smell a conspiracy).
Could someone that uses these other sites, or someone who is able to see what I'm missing, tell me what it is.

I use timeforchess as the colour scheme is not so harsh on my eyes.
Many work firewalls won't permit sites with "red hot" in their names, so chessatwork and timeforchess circumvent that.
chessatwork also (I read somewhere) looks more like a standard document (black and white colour scheme), so at a glance to a passing manager may not appear to be a chess site.
Choice of colour scheme in settings is a good suggestion - allowing users to have as plain or as garish a board as they wish (provided schemes such as purple and yellow are available as an option etc).
redhotpawn, redhotchess, timeforchess and chessatwork are esentially the same site but with different front end graphics. I first discovered the whole rhp phenomenon via a google search which threw up rhp, buit now usually play via the timeforchess interface ... I find I tend to play more restrained and logical in its soothing green and yellow environment than at rhp ... where the aggresive red and white interface makes me more inclined to speculative aggression, and even the odd kamikazee move or two

The other brands were originally created as an experiment to see if the RHP site name/domain was off putting - I know for a fact that some didn't like it. I still speak to people now who can't believe we created a site with such a daft name - and made it work. But, for the number of people who were put off by it, twice as many were probably attracted to it as it stands out among a page of more conventional site names. (It kind of reflects the very unsophisticated sense of humour of both the admins anyway)
We will never know if RHP would ever have been a success if I had stuck with the originally planned domain, worldnetplay.com. Yep, that name sucks, but a lot of greedy domain grabbing was going on back then, and it was planned that many different games would be supported at the time. Remember, it only started as one of my many crazy home brew projects back then - it was never intended to get THIS big.
And, that reminds me. RHP is 4 today!!! At 2001-02-21 11:25:51 GMT I became user number 1. Hurrah!
