My son was teaching in Tokyo when this started. He was happily in a safe building and got the opportunity to bond with his students under a desk. He spent the night in the classroom, with a TV to see what was happening and a mobile phone connected to the net so he could keep in touch. However the shocks were scary (even the aftershocks were huge) and it seems a surreal experience. He is not so sure that he has a flat to go home to. Rents in Tokyo are partly related to how safe the buildings are and his rent is very cheap! He has lived there for four years now and is deeply upset about the images shown of the tsunami not so far to the North. I think this is traumatic for anyone connected.
