Hope your cable bill is up to date or you're gonna actually have to venture to the nearest porn outlet and reminisce about your glory days. Don't forget. Sounds like your wife....well, except for the towering intellect.

Quite true, but she had attained such huge stardom that the likes of her may never be seen again. Right face at the right time! Happnes to many stars. Taylor took it an ran with it. I too disapproved of her friendship with perv MJ!
Was she as talented as Katherine Hepburn?
How about Audrey Hepburn??
She was a good actress who was good looking....she was not the Queen of them all.
There are several actresses today that I would say are more talented that Liz was.
Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster and Sally Field to name a few
There are several actresses today that are talented and much better to look at than Liz was such as Julia Roberts, Tea Leone, Marisa Tomei and Catherine Zeta Jones to name a few.
Liz's star power faded years ago and was re-ignited by her friendship with Michael Jackson during his boom.

I just love that she requested in her will that her funeral should start no sooner than 15 minutes after the published time because she wanted "to be late to her own funeral".
That's just awesome.
Originally posted by shortcircuitHepburn both Katherine and Audrey were definitely in her class. None of the others you mention even com close. While Streep may have won many Oscars she truly does not qualify as larger than life. Bergman was definitely in Taylor's league and possessed extraordinary beauty of a unique kind in her own right. All the others you mention, even the beautiful Tomei, while a great actress, is nowhere enar in possession of megastar quality. Roberts, Leone, Zeta-Jones are cutesy, perhaps even pretty. None is anywhere enar as beautiful as Taylor with those violet-blue eyes, so unique they were resplendent. You wait. When any of the ones you mention die, they might garner an infinitesimal fraction of the attention Taylor did in her death.

I based mine on award recognition, box office attraction, and publicity generators.
Everyone I mentioned were most definitely in Liz's league, and many of them exceeded her....especially Streep, who is the least attractive of all of the ladies.
How the hell do you figure Liz is "larger than life"?
Is that a backhanded slap at her huge wasteline? LOL
Guess you don't remember the incredibly funny impersonation of Liz by John Belushi.
That is how some will remember Liz.
I would take either of the Hepburns and Ingrid Bergman before Liz 10 times out of 10.
Guess you are vapor locked to Liz.
Not much sense arguing with you either.
Originally posted by shortcircuitStreep seems to be liked greatly by the academy. Her body of work is impressive and her recognition will always be there. However, larger than life? Never. Bergman, the Hepburns and those from that era unquestionably in Taylor's league. All the others like flying nun lady you seem to be so fond of are worthy of a Boniva commercial, but not much more. So you think that being ridiculed by a low life like Belushi signifies that a carreer was unworthy? Belushi, a drug addicted nobody determines a great actress' worth? By your definition of box office receipts determining greatness Toy Story 3 makes any Streep movie worthless! Box office determines greatness? Any Shrek movie outpaces any movie by any of the "great ones" you mention. So Shrek gets the nod and your selections and mine therefore suck!

I will try to explain box office appeal to you in simple terms to match your intellectual capacity.
In movies where the actress is performing, it the amount of ticket sales the actress should generate on her presence in the movie.
Now, if your favorite actors are in Toy Story and Shrek, then I understand your dilemma.
Sally Field (aka the flying nun lady and Boniva actress has a fairly impressive body of work in her long career....perhaps you should check it out before you dismiss her....just as you had done previously with Streep).
This is your m.o. when you try to defend any position you push. You go headlong into the defense of your meager position, casting out many possibilities that will usurp your position....just as you have done here. You went from "Liz is the greatest of all time and there are no others" to "well, yes, several of these are in her league" to "animated motion pictures are better than all actresses".
Seriously, if you are going to make bold and unsubstantiated comments (and you tend to make a lot of them), expect to get called on them and have your nose rubbed it the puddle you created.
I have made my case, and I have the goods to back up my claims. You are the kid at the Saturday matinee staring up at the actress wishing she was your girl while you butter your popcorn.
Oh, and John Belushi was a HUGE talent. It is quite unfortunate that he died at such an early age. He was not only a gifted comedian, he was also a talented comedic actor with a terrific delivery. He was an incredible mimic as well. Just check out his impression of Joe Cocker if you need to be a believer. Oh, and yes, he was heavy into drugs. If that gets an immediate thumbs down from you, then how in the hell can you stand there and defend Liz Taylor who was known for alcohol and drug abuse alike during her life? Get a grip and learn the facts about your case before you present it.
Now is is your turn to spew some additional irrelevant diatribes in my direction.
