Isn't using a computer in the finishing off, showing that you suck at end games?
I don't know, but i sometimes play on lost games to make sure my opponent is good enough for the end game. 90% of the time my opponent makes a mistake in that endgame that wins ME the game. Using a computer is never justified.
PS i'm one of the people that even resents the idea of using opening books during a game. It's alright to read books on it in your spare time, but it's not fair to open a book to help you counter your opponents opening. If you allow that you might as well allow people to use a computer to counter your opponents moves...

You were right to post this conversation-- you might want to bring it to Russ's attention via feedback also. He should certainly be permanently banned.
I don't think this conversation or any private conversation should be posted on the forum, unless both parties consent. Quirine should have posted it to Russ only, and let Russ take the appropriate action.
Now we have a public lynch mob, which acheives very little, other than to raise everyone's suspicion levels. Personally, I don't really care if someone uses software against me, as long as the games are fun and challenging. At least I get a sense of achievement when I win. Damned if I know what the cheaters get out of it.
Originally posted by GatecrasherAgree completely with paragraph one. There is obviously no skill involved (these people probably don't feel guilt in any case).

I don't agree with paragraph two... I think the general membership should be made aware of such issues - in that way they can make their own mind up.
I think the more that people are aware that this kind of thing happens, the less likely someone else is going to try it. I would be upset if I ever found out I was playing against a chess engine... it's highly unethical. I too, can't understand what the cheaters get out of it. After all, it's hardly worth being proud of beating someone by using the processing power of your PC is it?
Cheers,
Richard.

I believe anyone rated over 2000 would beat a computer relatively easily, correspondence style. Feivel, rated just under 2100 (and, incidentally no longer in the top 20) mauled a computer engine not long ago. I'm not really sure what rating a computer engine could achieve, but I think we can safely say the top 20 are legitimate players. 😉

you will have to check with meesy what the machine was.
maybe you should challenge meesy to an unrated game 😉
Originally posted by flexmoreYes, could be, even won but in a match Shredder must easily win.

What was Shredder hardware and which book? cause i could beat shredder with a bad book, If you go to chessbase.com you will discover that is important to have a good book, good hardware and good software configuration for a chess program.
Originally posted by Osseyes, but is the same situation if you let a program running till his opponent answers.
Correspondance games are very different to OTB or blitz. I have a couple of friends who play 'serious' CC (CC IMs and GMs) and who both mention that anyone just relying on a computer will still be beaten. They are 'only' around 2300 Elo OTB.
Shredder is rated 2818 at SSDF.(http://w1.859.telia.com/~u85924109/ssdf/).
HYDRA is not in the list cause is a new one but is still stronger.

I dont get it. How is it fun to let a program beat your opponents. What a waste of time. I mean its one thing to do it in an unrated match where your opponent understands that youre trying learn, but in rated game that is pathetic. I may not enjoy my sucky rating, but at least its truthful (not counting time outs). I just dont get it.

In a (tournament)game with eltuco I had the following conversation:

47 White hey Quirine! you move once a day only when you are winning?...
47 Black no, only when I think my opponent uses a chessprogram against me.
48 White he he, every body is here using programs, especially top players ...[text shortened]... ke he used a program...
The conversation shows I'm right.
Will he be banned from this site?

I saw your mesage: eltuco admits using a program here at RHP
1) you are a hijo de puta... and a cobarde... because that was a private message
2) I have nothing to hide. If some guy from this site ask me, I will say the same: Iam
learning opennings with books and I use this site for that... I dont want to cheat because I
dont care about ratings and that cagada.
3) Like I said, I use programs if I want to finish some won games... maybe 1% of my moves,
or 0,01% of my moves... dont care, but I play 99,9% of my moves with my brain... my goal is
to learn and I use tools (like programs or books) to analyse and to study games, specially
with +1800 players because games are more interesting... so,like against you, I found
accidentally that move...
4) To play a guy under 1800 in RHP is really boring and I dont use programs even books... I
only try to stay awake...
3) Only a few players here play really good chess (level in this site is very poor). I won
two games against you simple because I am better than you. I used a program in our second match to
see a move when the game was totally won (my goal was to analyse not to cheat), and every
body that know about chess can see that
4) Every body that know about chess can see that ThePo and Seadevil are using
programs. For this reason I used my program against this players (it was boring to play them
because I knew every time what they wanted to move... the same move like my program!)
5) I dont have time for conversations with boludos like you: I am working all the day and I
spend only a few minutes for this site (this way you can see a loy of incredible mistakes in
my games) ...
