do you really want to leave the hygiene of a stranger in a public sauna to that kind of an assumption? hundreds of them going through the sauna each day?

sauna culture, being taught to do that since birth, peer pressure in a public space. I'm sure it's possible, but not a lot of people are going to go that far just to deliberately smuggle filth into the sauna.

vs.

having questionable hygiene in the privacy of your own home, and casually taking that filth in your zeebra speedos into the sauna.



I know which bet I'm gonna take, but maybe that's only because I grew up in a sauna culture. (for me it seems weird to even try defending showering with your clothes on. I mean really, that seems a bit crazy to me. but, I do know from experience that people outside sauna cultures have a very different attitude towards nudity. so maybe it's just that? )

doesn't make much sense in a country where you grow up doing mixed gender nude sauna weekly (at least) though.

That's how it's done in Norway in mixed saunas. I am glad my colleagues told me so before I could embarrass myself (in Germany you aren't allowed to wear a bathing suit in the sauna).
