It's nice to see the forum like this rather than it being used as a glorified private message board for the same three or four people. Think of the GF as a field that has just been burned of the weeds that were choking the grass....it will take a while of barren burned landscape before the new foliage will sprout.

Hurrah. i say.

Lets just hope they got to the roots of the weeds. You know how troublesome weeds can be if you don't kill the roots.

To be blunt, the Forums are fast becoming the only good thing about this site. If it wasn't for the community here I reckon quite a few people (myself included) would have left years ago.

I reckon that this place needs some major design and development work to drag it kicking and screaming into the 21st century so it can compete properly with the other online chess sites.

I hope they start with the Tournament rating system.

Without taking it to the Site Ideas forum, Spanky, what's on top of your list for improvement? Serious question.

I woke up late and turned the television on around about the 75th minute, saw the score was 0 - 2 to Arsenal. Turned the television off, considered that to be game over and there would be no point watching.

Pretty much regretting that right about now.

3 - 2??? WHAT.

Mkay... now you're copy/pasting my post from the Sports forum into the General forum in this crybaby thread and in a context where it makes no sense at all. Do you know what that's called? It starts with an S. It looks like you're doing it deliberately too.

Are you just trying to show off that you know how to use the internet and search for things? What is your motivation here?

I think he might of meant a different "S".

Rhymes with wit. But of course he could have meant the Hormel version of "Treet" too.

Consistency would be top of my list. The updates/features we do get are sporadic at best. Apart from that:

Rating Floors - Stop all the sandbaggers, make entering banded tournaments worthwhile, and stop ringers in Clan matches.

Clan Scoring - As recently proved by the Clans at the top of the table, it's open to abuse and is purely about the quantity of games played.

Greasemonkey Scripts - Incorporate the popular ones as part of the site. Most of them add some great functionality.

Forum Upgrades - It's okay but still very basic. Improving the search system would be a good start. As would adding the ability to bookmark threads and highlighting unread replies to your posts.

Site Design - The upgrades done last year were a good start but it's still behind the times. The menu system is still convoluted and overly-complex, the blitz and club icons still haven't been properly incorporated into the icon list, and the HTML coding behind the site is poor which might explain why the site doesn't do too well in terms of SEO.

I've set the artificial deadline of February next year to get a TOTAL redesign complete. (That is 10 years of RHP, you see, but clearly the work would need to be complete well before then - including a lengthy beta.) This will be a very significant update.

This is not instead of new features, this is on top of much needed features. My time for development has been seriously limited just recently but I'm hoping for a very productive summer.
