and i once again discovered what it is we scots have against england. it's not the team. or the supporters. or even the thugs!
it's the commentators!
i'm sorry but after someone brought a swiz player down in the penalty box and the ref didn't see it, he claimed "he had his arm around him, but the contact was minimal"...wtf?!? he brought him down and it should have been a penalty. england aren't overly dirty as teams go, but when the commentators play it down?!?
but hey-i'm just biased π
it was on ITV... what do you expect, the channel that believes that everyone in the UK supports Man U and England at any sport.
England were poor tonight, they only looked good when the swiss were knacked running around with 10 men. But we have won a game in the group stage which is better than we generally do!!!

Originally posted by davydid you notice that the commentators were in awe of the french team at the start-"like a well oiled team", "they're meant to be playing 4-4-2, but i've counted hte players and i'd swear there was 15!"
WAIT TILL CROATIA GET YOU
the croatia put the pressure on, and they say it'll "go down as a sloppy performance"
france ain't a bad team, but 5 mins of sloppyness, and it determins half the game...π ok-they're an amazing team...commentators shouldn't give opinions on the match...or is that what they're paid for? meh...
Originally posted by davyCroatia have done us more than one favour in drawing with France. Not only did they deny France the points but they have made the England squad wary of them. Whereas France got ahead then relaxed, then panicked and nearly lost the whole thing this has hopefully given a warning to the England squad that they are going to have to play hard for all 93 minutes. Not 89!

Originally posted by geniusDon't know if getting beat off France was a blessing in disguise...if we can get to the final and play them again....I would rather of been beat than won and us be complacent π
i loved the advert for the england/switzerland game..."if only it lasted 90 minutes..."
If we at least draw with Croatia...that isπ

They are smug, arrogant and yobbish. They are the primary argument to be pro-abortion.
Anyway, what tickled me funny after the France - England game and the inevitable riots that followed was the UEFA (or FIFA...or whatever) coming out and saying the rioting stood lose from the football and that the two were not connected.
Let's see: Portugal, football, England lose, English riot in Portugal.
Naaaa....you'd be a fool and a communist to see a connection there!
UEFA (or FIFA...or whatever) coming out and saying the rioting stood lose from the football and that the two were not connected.the 'fans' sicken me too. I am interested to know if it is 90% the Brits or 50% or less but they are reported on more. Maybe because of the reputation other countries 'fans' search out the Brits when they want a ruck - they know there'll be one waiting. I still bet the Brits the major problem though.
I hope that FIFA/UEFA aren't trying to pretend that the violence isn't connected to the football because heir threat to send Enland home was hollow. Once they've made that threat they've got to stick to is or else it's a green light that the 'fans' can act as they like without reprisal.
Originally posted by belgianfreakThere is that small % of English fans that are pure muppets but I believe the majority are good and that all have been tarred with the same brush because of our history, I just hope that the police aren't ticking like a timebomb waiting, wishing, hoping to see English fans kick off so they can "act" (unessary heavyhandedness) and say "told ya so"

Originally posted by Russmore to the point, why threaten such a punishment if you have no intention to go through with is? I don't want to see England kicked out but I think UEAF/FIFA (can someone tell this goon which it is) has shot itself in the foot if it was an empty threat.
To court and then to prison is a reprisal enough. (As is happening)
Why punish 50 million because of 250?

Surely they can't really expectthe world to believe the fights and the football are unconnected? Are they then, but not sending England home as promised, saying that the violence was reduced as far as could be expected and within tolerable levels? If so then are they sending the message that a certain level of violence is acceptable and will be tolerated?
