I was wonderin' why Russ was posting so much this morning when it came to me: he's on holiday (and doing RHP instead: Fine fellow!)
And then I wondered again as I often do (poetic lisence there: I don't really), why does England have public holidays where the entire country takes the same long weekend? The situation is Scotland is quite different: here, public holidays are mainly city/region based.
There are pros and cons to the English system:
Pro: you can visit mostly anyone as they have a holiday too.
Con: everyone is visiting everyone: they're probably away.
Pro: Holiday season: many special offers on
Cons: Holiday season. Everyone on holiday. Travelling nightmare etc.
In Scotland where the holidays are more localised:
Pro: You can see your mates nearby
Cons: mates far off are at work (can be a pro if you want to phone them to remind them of this fact...)
Pro: there are places to go, the shops are open, travelling ain't bad
Cons: its raining. That's not much to do with the holiday chat, more Scotland all over.
Any other Pros/cons or thoughts?
At my work, other than Christams and New year, all holidays just go into a generic bank and we spend them as we wish. Obviously not an ideal system for jobs where timeshifts are critical.
isn't russ full-time at running rhp now though? 😕
and i work in a restaurant, so here are my pros and cons for bank holidays:
pro: i get paid!
con: it's just normal pay
con: which is £3.50
con: and everyone seems to want to come to my work on holidays
con: we're short staffed
con: i have to work my butt off
con: i hate it
holidays suck 🙂
