Robert Green gave an outstanding press conference and took it like a man. Kudos for admitting his mistake and not making excuses. Few athletes are willing to be as courageous, especially in a football crazy nation such as England. I have nothing but respect for the man. Embodies the proud tradition of English honor and manliness! Hats off to the dude!

Athletes are famously evasive of responsibility. Keeper, tender. Same difference. Give the dude a break. Most athletes would have gone into hiding. Personally I think he was upstanding and courageous. If you disagree. So be it.

no, i sort of agree with you, if not as strongly. maybe it's a nationality thing but i'd expect most english players to come out and hold their hands up after such an obvious mistake.

Perhaps I'm used to the American athlete, famous for evasiveness and faliure to accept fault. When LeBron James, expected to win his first championship, was eliminated by the Celtics, he did not even hang around for a press conference. Thus when Green was so candid I found it refreshing.

Another in the long and proud English tradition of failing valiantly. Worthy of Captain Scott.

What was his other choice?

"That wasn't me out there missing the ball. It was a cleverly disguised leprechaun." perhaps?

I'm telling you it was the courageous and right thing to do. Look at the difference in attitudes, let's say, of the French. They're blaming their draw against Uruguay on the vuvuzelas! Hiding behind such a sorry excuse is awful! I admire those who stand by their mistakes.

That was the best goal I ever saw in FIFA history.

The only one actually.

FIFA has got to stop putting vaseline on balls. English only ones allowed. With each other's wives and girlfriends, that is!
