My wife is an England supporter, the shame of it! How could this thing happen?

Over-estimation of their own qualities, and under-estimation of the Danes'. You know that proverb, that "to be lucky, you have to create your own luck"? Well, they thought they didn't need to. They thought they could be wasteful with their chances, because they're one of the best teams in the world, and they always create a lot of chances, and surely they'll be lucky enough to get one in even if they don't try all that hard, right?
Wrong. Even when you create a lot of chances, you have to make the effort to use them. And the Dutch team, predictably, thought they didn't have to. Result: 30 or so shots at goal, at most 10 actually on goal, none in the goal. The Danes did do their very best - they're not as good as the Dutch, no, but they clearly cared more about giving it their best shot. Result: perhaps 10 shots at goal, but 8 on, one of which went in.

That's what you get, and that's what you deserve, when you believe too hard that you're better than your opponent.

Yeah, the Dutch refs are no better than the Dutch players.

Mind you, Howard Webb is still the greatest hack I've ever seen blow into a whistle.

this is tournament football- this will bring England success and I think I speak for most England fans when I say- if this is what it takes to get England in to the finals of a major tournament- we are all happy

Yeah let's be positive and put it down to tactics rather than a bottle, are you confident they can readjust their mindset for 90 mins in a knock out game, if it does pan out for them in the group? 😕

Compared to WC 2010 England was fresh, played with an idea and gave the French not many chances. England surprised me in a positive way.
