We do as all historians do... We just sit back with a smoking pipe, looking scholarly and say 'yep, yep, what a marvelous piece of history... who's up for a drink now' 🙂.

How about the battle of Bouvines and the early retreat of the Duke of Brabant? Any thoughts on that one?

So how about the Spaniards and thier love of guerrilla warfare. They can't fight a direct war, but when it comes to guerrilla warfare they're right up there. I mean first against Napoleon in 1812-1815, then in the revolutions of the 1830's and finally against the Franco Regime in 1937-1965.

Isn't that partially a climate thing. I mean, some parts of Spain are really barren and it's very difficult to maintain a standing army then. That should favor guerilla warfare I think.
