When I was starting a EverQuest account a few years ago I was asked if I wanted a private server. What was EverQuest offering with a private server?

A long while back, when I still played EQ, there was a special server (Legends, I think it was called, or StormHammer, or something similar) for people that paid an extra 5 or 10 bucks a month. Presumably, the drops were better and I guess since there was practically no one on it, this gave you a better chance of getting in raids and such for the really good gear. I think there was even special gear that only dropped on that server. I'm not sure if they still have this (I've been away since 2004), or even if this is what you (or they) are talking about.

This cannot be what I was offered? It was offered when I was creating a legal EverQuest account.

That's EQ2. EQ is an old product and they're probably trying to get private individuals to take up the costs of their servers now that the game is outdated.

I am asking about something that is dated about the time the Ruins of Kunark came out.

I started playing EQ shortly after Ruins of Kunark came out, and I played for 4 years and quit in 2004, so that must have been sometime in 2000. I don't think they had any special servers at that time and definitely no private servers like talked about above (not that I know of anyways). This was the Golden Age for EQ, in my opinion, with a rapid expansion in popularity followed by the beginning of a decline that still hasn't seen rock bottom, even though the newbie zones are lifeless and the only people still playing are the diehard grognards.

Edit: What exactly were you offered? Who offered it to you? There was never any mention made to me of any private servers.

I remember logging in before I had too choose which server I wanted to play in I was asked if I wanted a private server. I think I had the game a year before Kunark and logged in six months later. I rejected the offer and continued the procedure of logging in. I am wondering what EverQuest was offering. It must have been a server with some perks?
