Under the data protection act amendment in the UK, a 'data subject' can ask for a 'Subject Access Request', ie, they can legally demand that all relevant information, held regarding them by a 'data controller' be divulged. THe data controller has 40 days in which to oblige. They can withold some information such as third party information or information that could 'cause harm' to the data subject or other people.

You will have to read about it if you wish to know any more as I have exhausted my knowledge on the subject and now I must sleep.
G'night.
Bo.
Did my reading but I'm no further forward. Company X acquires stuff about me, such as my credit card info, and passes it on to Company Y, who in turn shares it with Company Z. I may know about Company X and send them an SAR, but since I don't know the others exist it's got me nowhere when it comes to finding out who's got my info. Or am I missing something - maybe Company X has to declare who they shared it with?
Originally posted by KewpieIn the UK you organisations are obliged to keep your infomration private and not pass any of it onto a thrid party unless you give them consent by means of a privacy notice. Companies that disregard this can be hit with heavy fines. However, proving who has divulged which information to whom is another matter altogether. Not easy.
