Will my secret chess alter-ego and RHP passion now be exposed on facebook, along with other strange tendencies I have on the internet ? 😲
Leaving facebook tommorow. Reason - excessive paranoia. Or is it ?

Facebook is evil. The biggest mistake i've made on the internet was connecting spotify to facebook... tired to keep family members off my facebook account but some found me, want a cheque if i ever get married so grudgingly accepted. Before that facebook was strictly kept to people i knew from the internet... now some 'traveling friends' have made it on but for the most part I've been able to avoid it getting too personal.

I do not know about sell-out date, it seems that we are far and far more controled. I do not care about conspiracy theories neither if CIA is collecting my data - nothing in my life seems relevant for that kind of data collectors. But the fact that everything is connected now - smartphones synced to everything, involuntary gps tracking, unwanted photo tags, and above all, new facebook system.. I think it is going too far. I saw many facebook-based ruined relationships, friendships etc. I am considering Google+ but I would say it is just same thing wrapped differently.

naah... I do not have "much" to hide but I am still slightly displeased but such privacy news on social networks. Nowadays it is enough to watch porn every once in a while and it still can be posted on your wall.. what you watch and when. same with youtube. just one example 🙂 also, it seems there are facebook inboxes leaking out for others to see with the new facebook. It may be just a gossip but I do not like that 🙂

I think he means that people can view your activity history on Youtube as they can on Facebook. It stores this information for other people to see.

there is a new facebook system coming. long story short, try to google something like " facebook timeline privacy issues" security. The critics and mentioned issues could be over-hyped though..

I've just read an article about it. It pretty much sounds like nothing much has changed. FB currently shows blatant disregard to privacy users' already. Users can change their settings to make what they want available for others to see. If someone is a 'noob' though, the onus is pretty much on them to learn by their mistakes and they can unwittingly show their arses to the world, without even knowing about it.

This whole privacy thing is being abused. On the one hand, you can't even get information on your own personal phone records because they quote the privacy laws, usually to dodge having to actually do any of the work they're being paid for. On the other hand, to do anything at all on the internet you have to "accept" their terms and conditions, which seem always to include some clause that says they can hand out your information to all and sundry.

As someone else already said, most of the stuff we don't want seen is harmless enough, but these days anything you do can be media fodder or otherwise open to exploitation.

All you need is a full name and an internet connection to ruin someones life.

Funny, that. The people who believe the above never seem willing to post the password to their online banking account, or the address and opening times of their children's swimming club.
