Does anyone know what the stringy bits of bananas are called, other than "stringy bits"?

So far my attempts to find this answer have been fruitless.

And now I'll pedantically point out that a banana is not a fruit.

They are a fruit, as they have seeds. Stick to spelling.

A common misconception. Those "seeds" are in fact the dead remnants of real seeds.

(I have many talents.)

Moi? I never intended a pun, it was a serious question, your accusation has left me feeling extremely meloncholy :'(

Fear not, I have the answer....

Q. What are the strings on the banana called?
A. The strings are called Phloem Bundles (pronounced flom). They are part of the system that carries nutrition to all parts of the banana.

So now we know, everyone can relax now!

Not correct. Though he's never eaten one, he's very familiar with bananas.
