Discovered this 1954 BBC teleplay, youtube has entire film. Just watched the first segment, looks a lot better than the cheesy movie with Edmund O'Brien from the same era.

No, I just think Peter Cushing's interpretation of Winston Smith and his quiet desperation is better than the two movies that followed. Look for Donald Pleasance as Syme, he was in the '56 movie also. Again, his part was better in the BBC production.

The Edmund O'Bien version defies belief. Talking about stupidly changing the original plot.

This BBC TV version shows the excellence of British TV and that Peter Cushing was a very talented actor. Even the young Queen was impressed!

Read '1984' and Huxley's 'Brave New World' the same year, quite early, and never forgot either of them.

The story makes me scared. It looks like the liberals has a total control in the society. People should watch the movie always prior to the elections to avoid ignorent mistakes!

Sincerely,

Harri / Luck
