I memorized the entire raven for drama class in junior high school.

My favorite poem would have to be daddy by sylvia plath, poe comes in second for me.

Edit : I'd like to add that hearing James earl jones recite the raven on the simpsons was quite a treat for me. Something about his voice just matches the poem so well.

I also have a tape called the ...[text shortened]... hree of her more wel known poems, it will send chills down you to hear her read it lady lazurus.
Have you heard Christopher Walken reciting it? It's quite amazing...

Well if it makes you feel better I don't remember it all now. The teacher told us all to memorize a poem or a famous momologue from a play. I was about halfway through and everyone looked about half passed out when the teacher interrupted me ...[text shortened]... en recite the whole thing. What a waste of time memorizing it.

Have you seen "Vincent" by Tim Burton? I absolutely love it, which is odd cause I'm far from a Burton fan. I think it's honestly the best short film I've ever seen. But yeah, sorry, the entire thing is narrated by Vincent Price, reciting a poem that Burton wrote himself that ends with a quote from The Raven, and Price knocks it out of the park.

Edit: By the way... the name seraphimvulture sort of comes from The Raven. 😀

Since I'm a nice guy I'll upload it for you. 😏

Anyway, I really like it that he doesn't go for the typical bass voice and you can almost feel the panic in his voice. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

I just hate the damn background sounds, especially the stupid guitar. Heck, nothing's perfect.

I'll be back with it.

Thanks very much, Palynka.

You wouldn't have any Portuguese poetry to put up, would you? I only know a little Pessoa but anything would be good.

Can you read Portuguese? I don't have anything in English or any other language from Portuguese authors. Interestly enough, Pessoa actually made a translation of The Raven...

I'm studying Portuguese, so any sound files in Portuguese would be fantastic. I'm fairly fluent in French, which helps.

Pessoa is an interesting case. As you probably know, he also wrote in English. He also lived in Durban for some time so there is a connection with my country as well. Then there are our neighbours Angola and Mozambique where Portuguese is spoken. A useful language for me once I've got my tongue around it (people complain about French being difficult, but I find Portuguese pronunciation more challenging!)

I like fado, but there must be other contemporary Portuguese music worth listening to. What would you recommend?

John Clare's The Mores.

John Clare's really good! A great antidote to Wordsworth. I'd say he had the punk spirit in his way.
