And you have to be a pretty ignorant fan if you think FIFA ignores past refereeing mistakes when nominating referees so, again, accountability is different from demands for public apologies, regardless whether they'll be hypocritical or not.

What makes you think I don't understand how FIFA nominates referees? ALL professional leagues look into performance when nominating, not just FIFA. Their methods are not infallible. Just look at Serie A. The same thing has happened in in the NBA and MLB as well.
Your snobbery is showing. I enjoy both kinds of football, basketball, baseball, hockey and just about any other sport they play up here and I understand them all as well. My main point this whole discussion is the advent of replay not that referees should be grovelling for forgiveness or whatever other ridiculous point you are trying to ascribe to me.
