For British people only -

WOW! So FilmFour is starting on Freeview tomorrow and I was expecting it to be filled with really crappy films all day, but it actually looks like it is going to show to top notch films regularly. If you don't have freeview, get it just for this.

Films showing in the first week include:

Lost in Translation
Sexy Beast
Strictly Ballroom
Fifth Element
Elizabeth
Zoolander
Road to Perdition
Apocalypse Now

Out of those, I would watch only three.

That's 3 more than appealed to me.

edit: That's not a regional thing, though. There are no movies on movie channels here that I want to see either.

All right then. A small party.

I linked back to this one.

Perhaps I should have taken a bottle.

Which three?

You can't deny that they've put together a diverse and interesting film list, though. Something for everyone, I'm sure

I'd be interested to hear what you have to say about Sexy Beast (it was edited out of your quote). Purely because in the run up to FilmFour being introduced, there was a programme on the 50 must see movie before you die. Lost in Translation and Sexy Beast were both in the top 10 and Apocalypse Now was first.

edit: One of the film critics said you will either love or hate lost in translation and anybody who sees it will be able to tell you catagorically why they loved or hated it. So why did you hate it?

Hey Freddie, was I alone in thinking that the 50 Movies To See Before You Die prog on Channel 4 was blatant advertising for Film4?

Not that I'm being cynical or anything, as I'm sure that it will be coincidence when all 50 of those films turn up in the schedules of Film4 in the next month or 2...

LIT - I thought it was great!

It was advertised as being advertising for FilmFour! And I personally see nothing wrong with that. The top films certainly were very influencial and could be considered must see in one way or another, and the fact that at least 3 of the top 10 films will be on FF in the first couple of days says a lot about the quality of films the new channel is going to bring. However, I was incredibly surprised not to see Full Metal Jacket in there at all, when I would have put it straight into the top 5.
