Help. Firefox keeps freezing completely. It gobbles up 100% of CPU time and fails to respond. What can be causing such an annoyance?

It just doesn't like you.

EDIT: But on a serious note, what version of it do you have and what spec is your PC?

Is it only Firefox? Have you tried another browser as a test?
What else do you have running when it happens?
Have you got plenty of RAM and hard disk space?

AMD Athlon 1400 CPU
120GB hard disk + secondary 80 MB
1GB of RAM
Not tried another browser. I will do now. Thing is that it is one of those temperamental faults. It started when I upgraded from FF to FF2.
In fact it did the same thing a few months ago, when I upgraded FF to a more recent version.
Also the PC has completely froze up a couple of times whilst letting out one continuous beep from the BIOS 'tweeter'.
Nothing else running apart from Winamp 5.24.
Confused indeed. πŸ˜•πŸ˜›

It's been happening to other people too after upgrading to FF2 - what they have been doing is going back to their previous version which seems to fix it for them.
Maybe it's a bug.

Perhaps you are right. Can you get 'hot fixes' and patches for Firefox, as you can with Internet Explorer and Windows.

If you have the boxes checked, they are automatic. Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Update tab.

Strange. It is set to automatically download and install updates, but it hasn't been updated since I installed it on the 17th September. Maybe they
make sure it is a fully working application before they release, unlike MS products. πŸ˜›

Yeah, plus they don't need them so often. πŸ™‚

I loaded Firefox and in less then a day I had to take my computer to the shop to fix it. I am sure it was not Firefox, but I am not going to load that browser any time soon because of that. It cost me a hundred and sixty to have it fixed. No Firefox for me at this time.
