That is pretty funny, but why is it banned in NZ? Does that word have some special meaning there? I don't get it.
That ad went on to win quite a few accolades in the industry. There are Toyota SUV's running around with the 'bugger' word on their wheel covers .
I wont even go to the 'sheep shagger' ads. Way too close to the percieved sensitivities of some selective thinking precious southern 'gentleman'.
Bert Reynolds pretty much covered that in 'Deliverance'

Originally posted by KewpieWell, where I am from it has no bad meaning at all. After reading Wiki, I can see that it could in some cultures. I think it is how a word is used as to whether it really is a bad word. I mean, there are ways of substituting normal everyday clean word and make it sound filthy. So I think a words context makes a difference. It surprises me at times that what is perfectly normal in one culture is abnormal and even possibly illegal in another.
It was only *restrained from showing* for a short time in NZ, then the courts decided that *bugger* was an everyday colloquialism with no particular meaning and it could be shown on TV. In Australia nobody even noticed, it's an everyday expression here, like *bummer* in other places. Nowadays we use *bummer* as well as *bugger*. I think I can use both words here without robomod getting to me, guess I'll find out soon.
Example: Showing the soles of a shoe is insulting in some cultures. I just think it's ridicules. But if I was raised in that culture I might not. Now every time I see a shoe I can't help but think of George Bush. 😀
Originally posted by skeeterThanks, on the video website, it claimed that it was "The infamous Toyota 'bugger' ad (banned in NZ temporarily, not banned in Australia)" So you must be correct. I guess they just needed to butt heads over it a while. Much like we have to do here at RHP some times. Still a great commercial, Now what's this about sheepshagging? Do tell~! 😲 Maybe we could have multiple PM's together. 😛

Yeeeh. 30k moves in a tad over 6 years. Expectation is high on a big suprise happening soon.

Your 'efficiency/prowess rating' seems even more impressive... an average of only 22.7 moves per game (30,001 moves to complete
1,324 games). I vote for an exceptionally high quality T-shirt with "I work hard and play hard, and sometimes get the two confused".

I stay with the three greats where possible - Sicilian, Dutch and I open almost exclusively with the English. Sorts most of them out pretty quickly. Book to 15 and it's even but because I have practised plying deeper they usually blunder the end. Just tactics.
Have lately taken a liking to the thematics, different and you are taken outside your comfort zone. It does focus you. Thats me.
Thanks for the stats

Originally posted by Grampy BobbyFootnote: Quite a long while ago I enjoyed analyzing the USA 'Thoroughbred Racing Form', the evening before, and then spending a weekend day in the sun with my wife sipping frosty cold beverages and making a variety of $2.00 exotic bets at the California OTB outlets and summer fair tracks. Accomplished chess players are clearly not steeds per se but if they were and RHP the paddock of 2009 entrants think I'd factor in 'Efficiency/Prowess' in making my selections (Overall Rating / EP). Quite pleased to identify sound value double digit 'sleepers' in the first tier while avoiding low odds false favorites in the second tier. My wife simply studied the post parade, somehow able to determine which horses were "happy to be there" on any given day. Her winnings invariably covered my losses. Well, most of the time.

You are talking chess in the General Forum - this lot are more
interested in sweary words than chess. 🙂
You opened up Thread 114264 in the Chess Forum
saying ti was a mistake. Perhaps it was a Freudian slip.
It's were you really belong.
if you stay in this forum one of the mutts will have a bite and you will
pick up another ban. Leave them to their squabbling.
I think I've found a shot for your opponent in the 2nd game you
played on here - see above thread.

This General Forum mutt is always interested in what a 2200-2400 player has to say about chess, as I am sure others are.
