Forums, forums everywhere - and not enough active posters to keep them alive. I think we should kill all the club forums and bring all the spinoffs back to the General Forum. Otherwise these forums are history.

Are you boycotting 'Site Ideas' to set a precedent?

We could use a bigger turnout at Phlab's annual BBQ. I say kill the forums altogether so more people have to show up in his backyard.

Well, most, if not all, of the forum I take active roles in are not in the public.. so I'm not so sure I'd quite go so far lol...there are a few too many egos to 'serve' publicly and you at least know who you're talking to in the private affairs...an immense advantage is that we don;t have to wait for the site to kick an idiot, he's gone pronto 😛

I think it fair to say club MUTI Club 108 is as active a club as I know of here, fairly well nothing is missed on their forum...have a gander at club public forums to get an idea of what's going on there, 'RecruitingMUTIneers!' about six threads down... it's at this point that 'glorious leader' Leur swings on by and sends you an invite 😛 ...and to the poster directly above me, nope they're not fussy lol..

When you think that we are the pioneers of the Internet world, I think what has been achieved in the last 10 years (there was no internet proper before RHP, and I mean that literally, because sending my fellow geeks green messages doesn't really encapsulate all that we have come to love), it really is quite amazing.

Granted there are a few hiccups to over come, like creating an on-line social construct that differs from what we know in the real world.
But my point in case is, the General forum is not decaying because of the limitless amounts of forum outlets but because as individuals, we approach this medium using real world understanding and once it has been fouled up, we have to move on to a new scenario where we can use the same rules and mess it up again (again, granted, there are few individuals that learnt quickly the process to survival).

Until we are protected from ourselves with a new system which prevents us from using real life approaches we will just use and abuse and then move on.

How long before Facebook becomes a service saturated with fake accounts?

Edit: I should add, unlike Facebook, come for the Chess, stay for the chat.

I am not sure if it is a sign of madness replying to your own posts, but as I am absolutely sure somebody will ask, I will answer how we can bring about the protective change required.

Imagine if you will that here on the Internet we stop being individuals and become part of one collective thought, that entity already has an identity so no other is required.
Each of our posts should be made anonymously without any identification other than that for administrative purposes (and banning the plonker part of the collective).
Without identity, ego's tend to go out the window and we can ultimately breathe a sigh of relief if we say something out of turn, because on our next encounter all can be forgotten.

Edit: I should also add that these posts were sponsored by Guinness -- I am surprised I can even see the fecking keyboard, I had trouble finding the right house.

I could've sworn that was a classic 'Glenmorangie on the rocks' ramble but if you say it was a relatively cheap Guiness affair, then so be it 😛

You are not wrong Sir, there may have been the odd wee dram knocking about.

Edit: Hang on my good man, cheap, cheap (and no, I am not impersonating a budgie), have you bought 6 pints of Guinness lately (plus the rounds for your smarter mates who accidentally pop off to the loo when it is their round)?

Alas I gave up the evil weed, errrrm sorry, the demon drink, some years ago...therefore my friends and family do very well, when it comes to rounds, as they only have to stump up for the odd tonic water lol...
