I know some people on here use fl studio. I have fl studio 9 and have decided to finally work out how to use the blasted thing. My probelm (or my first one anyway) is this...I am trying to insert a sound into the pattern box (let's say for example...deeper purple pluck {bass sound} into pattern 1) but when it transfers over into the pattern it totally loses its sound and appears as a tinny piano sound. sound effects seem to be uneffected and drum sounds seem to be ok, it's just the string sounds that have so far t4ransfered corrupted this way...what am i doing wrong?

Thanks for the help...Huck.

Seems what is happening is that the sound is transfering over to the same note regardless of the note of the original sound....making the large list of different ntoes redundant. Is ther any way i can transfer the sound with the original pitch?

Not used FL for ages and trying to picture it. Can't you scroll that keyboard thingumy out of the left hand side of the patterns, between the sample names and pattern matrix thingy? Then you can select which notes you want.

Yeah, seems regardless of what note i pick in the left bar, it transfers as a middle c. I can alter it with the piano thingy, but it's a pain in the arse.

I've also been trying to copy the beginning of "shimmy shimmy ya" but i can t get the double tap working without increasing the tempo to crazy proportions....i'm sure there's a way, but there's no easy way to learn. Even dedicated forums would take time to get the method.

FL is supposed to be a wicked program but I never seemed to get very far with it. I had more joy with Cubase SX. Took a while to suss out the basic config but when I did I was on a roll. You can change all the dynamics of the drums on it note by note and really get rid of that synthetic feeling.

I have cubase studio, but i found a tutorial for fl studio and thought i'd try it first...the interface is easier to use, though i am way out of my depth with both...i was thinking of trying to complete a song with fl studio before moving on to cubase studio.

Have you tried using the 'Piano Roll' feature for both setting the pitch of instruments plus improving the versatility of instrument timings?

took me a while, but I think I get now what you're doing: you put an audio clip into the 'step sequencer', then manipulated that with the 16 buttons in a row? that's only meant for simple patterns, like building up a drum beat. it doesn't do pitch shifts. it's for the 808 people.

right-click on the sample button, select 'piano roll', and input the actual melodies/patterns there.

No, i haven't cut anything, i'm going into packs i bought with fl studio, picking the electric guitar and then picking one of the sounds (there is a big row of them all in note sequence)...when i drag it to the pattern it arrives at a preset note, not the one chosen.

Just open the piano roll man. Top right of the screen says PR and icon looks like a game of breakout.

If you click on the channel name it comes up with the settings. Using the pitch control you can change the pitch of the instrument.

it doesn't matter where you get the audio clip from, the sequencer still doesn't do different pitches. it simply triggers the selected audio clip to play at the exact moment in time you tell it to.

if you want to actually play a melody with a sample, you input the pattern in 'piano roll' window.

the place you took the sample from, that's not meant as a sound bank either. well, it is, but not for you. it's a sample bank of some specific plugin (fl slayer?), which already has it's separate own control interface. (select channels/add one/fl slayer from the top menu to use a plugin, then input the melody into ITS specific piano roll).

unless I'm misunderstanding what you're actually doing, of course.
