This reason is that when I fly, I often end up spending time in Canada 😛.
There are a lot of things about flying I don't like. Maybe the worst is the pressure on the ears, which I am very sensitive to. Some airports are a nightmare, especially if you are in a hurry because your flight was late and you need to reach your next flight. Some passengers are a nightmare, too. Etc.... But I am not afraid of flying, and it saves so much time that it's worth the trouble. However, if I am travelling with my cello, I usually don't fly, because the only really safe (for the cello) way to fly with a cello is to buy a ticket for the cello, too. I have only done that once when going to Budapest for a concert, and I didn't have to pay for it myself.

Originally posted by rbmorrisNo. But the violinist I was travelling with (whom I had the concert with) wanted to take her violin and a bag into the cabin, but only one piece of hand luggage was allowed, so the cello took the violin. 😀 The cello actually paid more for the ticket than myself, because I got a student's rate. I asked if the cello could get a discount because it was over 100 years old, but no. 🙁

The cello story is the coolest travel anecdote I have ever heard.
