have a medical in a couple of weeks and since my blood pressure has been on the high side of normal to slightly over for the past few years thought i'd give up salt for a few weeks prior to the tests to see if salt intake really does control your blood pressure. only started a few days ago but already it's a nightmare, unseasoned meat and especially chicken is so bland. worse of all was probably pasta, been cooking it in salted water for so long cooking in regular water makes it taste like chalk.

So you're going to doubt years of serious medical testing and base your opinion on whether giving up salt for a few weeks works? Mmm...

How was your blood pressure when you decided to stop salt intake?

So you have no idea where it was when you actually stopped taking salt, right?

yeah pretty much, i'm figuring it'll be about the same as it was a few months ago. this experiment is golden i know. general diet and exercise habits have been good during that time so if that has anything to do with it it’s unlikely to be higher when i stopped using salt than it was previously.

Ok, fair enough. Just don't overdo it as a little salt is actually good.

You should take up some habits that are likely to raise your blood pressure so that the test result will show that things have become worse, and then you can blame the saltlessness for it.

Dude you are way too young and skinny to have elevated BP. COOL IT!

Try substitutes or other spices. You're a cook, figure it out. How messed up would it be for you to have a heart attack or stroke in your 20's or 30's!?!!!!

Why would you want to change a single habit before a test? That only leads to possible false results of the real deal. That in itself is of no help to you, for assesssing what needs to be addressed, or for what kinds of changes need to be made, if any.

Changing your intake now is a lie unto yourself, and not to the medical practitioners. They can only go on what you present to them. If there is an underlying problem then it will become yours and possibly a bigger one, at a later stage.

That sounds like my blood pressure now.

At your age I was 120/70.

Crowley's is 224 / 36.

Oh sorry! Wrong thread. I thought this was belly over belt.

Speaking for myself, restricting salt intake dramatically decreases my BP from 130/75 to 110/68. I found pepper and lemon juice help. Also, there are many spices, try some Curry powder. 🙂
