I was asked by someone from the UK the other day why do we call it football when we don't kick the ball.....I thought about it and he did have a good point the only time the ball is actually Kicked is when going for a field goal, Or after a touch down or to start the game. Perhaps it should be called something entirely different?

It was pointed out to me also kicking on last down if the team wants, which I did leave out.

Pehaps I should have put up more an argument on the kicking part of it....I don't follow football or soccer that closely and will admit don't know all the rules. I do however enjoy the big games for championships.

@Very-Rusty

I would love to see a Rugby League side play against an NFL side - but no body armour.

Kicking is still an important part of the NFL game but why they called it "football" in the first place is a bit of a question mark. Perhaps so they could use the same name the Euros (back then) use for their favorite pastime. Dunno

Anyway you cut it on this side of the ocean Football will always be called that and in Europe Soccer will always be called Football. I don't think we will ever see that change in our life times.

Obese ball. Most NFL lineman couldn't last a whole game on the soccer field.

nfl linemen are trained to react quickly from the snap with power
they get rest between plays and when the ball changes hands
comparing them to soccer players is ridiculous
