"progress" is sometimes a marxist vision and sometimes a godly vision. sometimes progress is only one neolithic man stealing another man's wife.
progress per se is not a goal.
the unreasonable man is not to be equated with the "intelligent man". the unreasonable man is not necessarily socrates drinking the hemlock. the unreasonalbe man may be goebbels shooting his beloved wife in the face as they die outside the bunker in 1945 for it would have been "unreasonable" to become captured by the soviets.
( yes, grasshopper...you may now try to walk the rice paper ).

i guess you do not know about the long day in the sun outside the taoist monastery where the wannabes sit before the master and only those who first offer the poured tea to the master before drinking theirs are deemed acceptable to pass into the gate to learn to walk the rice paper....youth in our age ( unlike the prior ages ) lose more quickly the wisdom of the generations since all reality springs from a magazine of pictures or an electronic device held in the hand...
...spend a weekend with a blank piece of paper...listen to the birds at 4:00 a.m as dawn breaks...drink whiskey in the quiet of sunset with your dogs at your feet and spend 48 hours away from a tv set or a google device....
