People you can lose contact with sometimes for years at a time, and just pick it up again.
They will always be glad to see you, or to hear from you, although they don't demand or expect anything from you.
When they phone you out of the blue it makes your day.
When you have a shattering event they are there to support you. When a shattering event occurs in their lives you just want to be there to support them.
You can say things to them that you would never dream of saying to your life-partner.

IMHO...I believe you should be able to say anything to your life-partner, who should also be your best friend.

They call it communication. 😉

"Never saying" and not "able to say" are two different things.

Again, you should "be able to say" anything.

You the shy type?

Nothing flew over my head at all uni guy.

You really should be able to tell you partner anything! Communication is a very big part of a relationship. You may understand that better as the wetness behind your ears dries up, & the years mature you.

I could have swore you use to fly a U.S. flag! 😉

You'll understand, all at once it will hit you like a ton a bricks.

Then you will, Know-it-all. 😉

Ok, so you had been flying a U.S. flag before now your flying a scottish flag.

Would you rather be living in Scotland? Relatives & friends there?

I meant you still didn't get it. Perhaps this will help... I agree that you should be able to say anything to your life-partner but that doesn't necessarily mean you would or should say everything to them. Get it?

I have family there a great big family in fact.

I do get it.

I realize everyone is different, some people may have a problem being able to tell their life-partner/spouse everything, I certainly don't.

Keeping secrets is not always a good thing, they have a way of coming out down the road, it is best to be open and discuss everything with your partner.

Perhaps you can give me an example of a case where you wouldn't or shouldn't, to help me better understand your view.

If you forced yourself to tell your parnter everything you wouldn't have time for anything else.

I think you're missing the point here.

What would you not tell your partner, that you would be able to tell your friend.

Your partner should also be your best friend, IMHO.

Often, even in close and healthy relationships, there may be a number of reasons why a person will refrain from saying something to his or her partner. Perhaps it's unkind or petty; it may be uninteresting to him; maybe it's something the partner would overreact to or get unduly stressed about.

Sometimes the most loving and respectful act is to keep one's mouth shut.

Anything that is unimportant; perhaps something about sports(unless, of course, your partner is interested in sports), or any subject your partner isn't interested in. There are plenty of other things you probably wouldn't tell your partner but I'm guessing you've been single for a long time unless you count the women you can "afford."
