vacation option!!! ???? a good player informed me that he doesnt
have an internet connection at home!! so he PAYS to play his games
at a public internet connection. it annoys him to find that on his
winning games his opponents are slow to move and worse!! allows the
games to timeout!! sometimes the only games to play are all of
his"LOSSING" games. his comment:"FANCY PAYING TO LOSE"!! I
AGREED WITH HIM!! can you IMAGINE his post if hed just paid to use
the internet to find that all of his winning games were on VACATION !!
just to avoid loss! i apoligise to this player to take something said in
private and use it for public debate!! but felt that something needs to
be aired on behalf of all "KEEN" and "DEDICATED" players!!

Something else we can do to help in the selection of appropriate
opponents is to publish more statistics about players such as

1) Percentage of games claimed by timeout
2) Number of vacation requests
3) etc....

Also, we could simply add an option that allows players to enter, say,
4 weeks worth of vacations on a calendar where they will not have to
make a move. We could implement it just like your boss would, you
can take a certain number of vacation days in any given year, during
which time you are immune to timeouts. This way players couldn't
exploit it for individual games.

I saw Chris' reply to your post here, and think he has some good
thoughts about how to implement a vacation option.

I'm replying here to simply remind that most all of us PAY for our
Internet service. Therefore, we PAY to play our games, too. The
person paying at a public Internet cafe type location may pay more,
but he decided that path was better for him than to purchase his own
computer with Internet service. People make choices every day -
there is nothing new or unusal about this.

Personally, I don't see the value in posting a negative "rant".
Positive, concrete suggestions are more constructive.
