Does anyone know how to configure MIDI in fruity loops to accomodate a MIDI keyboard. I am lost.

nope, sorry... 😳
While I think that fl is a great program. after years of using midi seqs, sound editors and soft synths, fl doesn't fulfills my "taste" for music composition.
Anyway, I don't want to discourage you.
So. go to www.pgmusic.com. Look for the General Forum, sign as guest, post your questions, and I'm sure you will find there a knowleadgable friend that could bring you some help.

Keep making music!

Cheers!

I never really liked fruity loops, Although I did get into Rebirth for a while, but as Littlebear says, MIDI doesn't fulfill my composition needs. These days I use MIDI just to add a little flavour with background synths here and there. I prefer to use real instruments in 90% of music.

But as to configuration, sorry I can't help you, my pc did it automatically, I run Logic and a couple of extensions like Wave lab, and it all auto sets up.

Back to the old problem of latency dude. That's why I'm trying a different application. And don't say buy a motu, because I haven't got that kind of money.

Yes. I know what you mean about real instruments. What I am trying to achieve is to create some backing tracks for me to twang along with. Just some drums and bass etc. And perhaps a few strings, brass and piano over the top too. Just call me Mr cheese. 😀 I'm having all sorts of problems though. I managed to configure cubase about 18 months ago but couldn't get rid of the latency. There was avery noticeable delay between striking the keyboard keys and hearing a sound. This as you can imagine, makes it nigh on impossible to play anything in time. Anyways, I thought I'd try fruity loops to see if it presents the same problems.

Okay, a couple of suggestions then:

Ensure you have the most up to date sound drivers
Get a better sound card
Get a faster CPU
Get a hardware Midi Synth and then record in audio from it

Any or all of these should improve your situation

Okay cheers. For now I am just trying to figure out how to configure cubase again. There are 500 different settings. I think the faster cpu sounds the easiest and cheapest option. I am currently on a 1400 thunderbird but my motherboard will take up to a 2400 I think.

The CPU and lastest sound drivers should improve your latency problem, but at the end of the day your system will run according to the weakest link, so if your sound card is rubbish then there'd be little point in upgrading everything else.

I'll have a look when i get home, i remember doing it with a very old version quite easily but i'm assuming you're using the recent one. If you've got a few bucks burning a hole in your pocket you might want to give Reason a try. I use Logic, but have a couple of synth's involved which makes Reason a little useless to me (why would i buy them and not use them?) but i've fiddled with it a bit and it strikes me to be far superior to FL. 😉

What sound card do you use? How much RAM/processor do you have? Did you get latency using one track or only when you had multiple tracks/ software running?

I had the same problem with Logic. My friend and i built a machine with an AMD processor (i forget which motherboard but it was a brand new chipset, non Intel). It was beastly but we had all kinds of latency issues. We struggled along for 1 year like that and decided to build a new machine. We used well tested Intel components throughout, ditching AMD completely. The two machines were almost identical in speed but the Intel one run's with no latency at all. We came to the conclusion that our sound card had been tested on Intel chipsets, concequently when we combined different manufacturers inside the machine we'd had conflict issues that looked like configuration problems inside Logic. You have no idea how pissed we were when we realized this. We wasted the best part of a year!!

I have a sound blaster audigy platinum, half a gig of pc2700 RAM and an AMD 1400. I know it's not the best, but thought it would be enough to blow away any latency.
