I just bought a DVD recorder (Memorex 16X-DDL-ILO) to burn some of my video productions. It came with Nero and I bought some DVD+R discs with it, and that is the type that comes with the hardware. I can start up the program and design a DVD in Nero just fine, but then when I go to burn it, I get an error that says:

😠
This disk is not writable

Please insert a writable disk
😠

I have used the one that came with the software, and several of the ones that I bought separate, and no fix to the problem. This type of DVD should be compatible, correct? I even thought it was in need of a firmware upgrade, but I can't find anything that matches this drive.

I've been through the help file a dozen times and by the looks of it, things should be burning just fine, but of course they aren't.

Should I just take the damn thing back and pay more for one that will actually work? Or am I doing something obviously wrong?

Are you sure your burner is +R compatible? Did you try burning -R's?

Are you using Nero burning rom or nero express or nero smartstart?

Most people I know that have tried using NERO have experienced this problem at some point. They also seem to think that it is a glitch in NERO rather than user error. From my experience just rears it's ugly head for a while then goes away just as quickly. Bin NERO and find a better DVD burning program. 😀

Nero is a great program, but it's not for incompetents. Are you actually using a DVD or trying to burn DVD material to a CD. Also, check the burn settings, do some research and make sure your material is compatible with both disc and burn process.

No need to be rude dude. 🙂
From using a blank, disc I have been told that I have to insert a disc numerous times, only for me to have success with the same disc seconds later without changing any settings whatsoever. As I said before, I am not the only person I know who has suffered this problem. I think that pretty much rules out my hardware, the discs that i use and user error. Or perhaps not. If you could solve this problem, I and a few friends and members of my family would be eternally grateful.

I didn't intend it to sound that way, I was just stating a fact of the program's use.

When I insert a CD, it gives a different error, which is to be expected. The box says it is compatible with DVD+R, and like I said, the drive came with 1 blank DVD of that type.

I'll try the damn thing again when I get home from work.

The nero startsmart icon is on my desktop, but that seems to activate nero express when I select DVD-Video.

I had some problems with a bad batch of CD's that I wanted to burn.
It might be something like that, See if you can use another brand
just to check out that possibility. I have used several types of burners
and have had some problems with Nero. Check out another brand if you can.

That stuff is awesome. My buddies and I tracked some down last year cause Dan claimed he could fit no less than 4 bags in his mouth at one time (no swallowing, minimal chewing). One of the most disgusting things I have seen in awhile. So there I was 4 months later (xmas) sitting around playing Risk with my brothers and 1 of their friends, so I shared the wealth (BLC). This guy had never even heard of Big League Chew before. Like wtf? how can have not heard of the greatest gum ever produced? Anyhoo, I managed to edumacate him and he was quite grateful. 15 years of life w/o BLC just blows my mind.

Well I moved the whole drive and software to a different computer and it worked perfectly. This thing must be a piece...

Edit: Yet it runs high-end games fine.

Did you check out the cables first? Sometimes they cause problems like that.
