Hello I am a new player here on this site. Ive been playing otb chess for about 3 months and have been told I have some tallent (im around 1950 USCF). I recently started playnig online on both this site and GameKnot.com, another correspondance site. I only have money for one subscription and I cant decide! Is there anybody here who has played on either before and could you tell me which one is better? Thanks!!!

Rock - to be fair, what you probably need to do is play enough games at both sites to judge for yourself. I've played at GameKnot since Feb. of 2001 and it is not what it once was, which is why I'm wrapping my games up there for now. Nevertheless, it is a good chess playing site and probably deserves a fair look. I think their main problem at the moment is a heavy-handed approach in dealing with their forums, but that's the webmaster's choice and he seems to have made it. If you have no interest in such things, though, you will find that you can play a wide variety of talented players. Either way you decide to go, just have fun. That's the main thing.
Originally posted by Wrongdaddyi've played at both sites for over a year, and the only thing that kept me at GK was the forums-which are now non-existent. the chess is still good, but i much prefer the rhp interface. plus the GK webmaster doesn't seem to like me...😕

GK has a much more structured leadership approach to the forums and general behavior to the site itself. You can't get away with alot of the things that seem to be a problem here. Mike, the webmaster, will simply take your posting rights away or mute your account without any second thoughts. Multiple accounts are marked on the user's profile, so this ratings munipulations is easier to see and dealt with. As far as the interface goes, it takes a little getting use to, but once you catch on its hard to beat. The analyze the board feature is great for planning lines. As far as the queens gambit and Najdorf, its simply: you haven't played the right people. There are 3 servers that run the site, so it is seldom down (once that I remember). $5.95/month, $29.50/year or $95.00 lifetime. I've played on almost a dozen sites now and that is where most of my games are at.

The webmaster at GameKnot is currently banning people right and left - he is really alienating alot of long time members there, and I suspect many will be gravitating towards other sites like rhp, where forums are in operation, and freedom of speech is not squelched.
justice?

I would normally stay out of a conversation such as this, for obvious reasons, but in this case I will just say that I am on a 'feature drive' now, so if there is anything here that is missing that you want, it will be added.
