I'm not worried about anyones fitness - use of oil is, in many cases, unnecessary. It also kills the environment. High prices may be be the only thing that stops people abusing oil powered machines, because god knows they won't stop of their own accord.
Oil is a finite resource, higher rices will create innovation for more environmentally sustainable ways of fuelling out transortation systems.
With global warming set to wreck the planet, I'm bemused by people who complain about high oil/gas/petrol prices.
If they really were affected they would buy more fuel effeicent cars rather than the explosion in gas guzzling 4WD and SUV's that have hit suburbia in recent years.
And another cost of burning all that oil. Does anyone realise how many chemicals and vital pharmaceutical products are derived from crude oil. These organic compounds have taken millions of years to form and cannot be replicated over night. The chemical industry (and pharmaceutical industries in particular) will have serious problems carrying on with their work. Cures for many diseases may well ust dissappear in a cloud of smoke, quite literally. It doesn't just stop there. Materials we use, plastics, carbon fibre materials are all abstracted from crude oil derivatives. Even things as simple as candles. But hey, we don't care, we won't be around to see the sorry end. As long as we can drive into the city centre in our mod con filled bubbles, pay over £5 a day parking fees, even though local public transport costs less than this, nothing else matters. I just don't understand it.
EDIT: It's not just the financial cost you should think about when you fill. I won't go on anymore because everyone knws it already. They just choose to ignore it.

High oil prices can only be good. Get off your fat arses and bike/bus/walk/run.
The higher the price, the better. If you depend on gas, you should think of restructuring your life. And when do those silly Americans start thinking about the Kyoto-protocol, for all sake. This makes me very grumpy!
