That's right!

HR 163: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d108:H.R.163:
And its companion bill, S89: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c108😕.89:

These bills are for a manditory draft. All boys and girls, age 18-26, are eligable, even if you are registered for or attending school. They are trying to pass these bills while the public's attention is focused on the upcoming election. If they pass, drafting will begin in June of 2005. I urge you all to do something about this right away! The following online petition is a good start:

Go to http://www.thepetitionsite.com/
Search for HR 163

But it's not enough. Write your congressman. Tell everyone you know. Stop the draft!

it looks to me like there will be alot of ways around it. i think it would be a good idea though. there was a thread on this a while back. lol i think it would make people look at things way different.

Indeed. Once rich white folk have to send their own kids to die in some god-forsaken hole, perhaps our country will be a bit less cavalier about going to war.

Would you support such a measure?

Yeah, but there would have to be an exemption for conscientious objectors, and the option of serving in other capacities during peace-time.

I wouldn't. Rich white kids dying is just as pointless as poor white kids, or kids of any other colour for that matter. I'd rather support a program that meant that every brigade had to have a polititian ridding along with them. At the front. Then they might think twice before talking about 'acceptable losses'

Of course, but since that will never ever happen, would you prefer a blind draft to a volunteer enlistment program that targets minorities and the poor?

This is where someone points out that Bennett is flat-footed or weighs less than 112 pounds...

I'm 29, so I'm not eligible for the draft. I could imagine volunteering, however, under Red Dawn type circumstances.

What if they held a war and nobody came? Apparently the answer to this is a draft.

But shouldn't we have not started the war in the 1st place? And I mean, if Bush hadn't gotten all those soldiers killed there wouldn't be a need for a draft!

But anyways, if Bush wins the election then I'll be 17 almost 18 when theres a new election. If we start another war, I might have to go! I want to finish school and get a job, not die half way around the world in the name of Bush! Plus my sisters friends family will move to Canada if this passes. Their mom says she won't have her sons killed in Iraq.

I've never seen it, but that movie apparently inspired crazy ideas equaled by only the beliefes of a few RHPers 😛.
