That's how i see it anyway.
It might be different for chicks, they don't look so desperate. I hear that fat guys with big buckets in their hand get a buy on the weekend because they look like film geeks 😛
Originally posted by SunburntVery cool. I love going to the movies by myself. The only problem is, if it's something you'd like to discuss afterward, you don't have anyone to talk to. I took the day off work to see Mulholland Drive a couple years ago. Loved the movie, but wished my wife was there so we could have talked about it afterward.
Is this pathetic? Or cool?
Originally posted by rbmorrisWell, I thought so, too. I have been to two movies alone and enjoyed it. It's true that not having someone to discuss it with is a bummer.

Originally posted by SunburntWhen I go to the cinema alone, I go to escape the banal trappings of every day life, such as pseudo-social questions like this...that's not to say the question is banal, but its a good example of why cinema and books are an escape we (or I) seek.

I don't want to think it's pathic, or cool, as, for me, it's just going to the cinema...but I am aware that it appears "sad" to some folk who feel the need to put down others to feel better about themselves.
I like going on my own, the people I know have awful attention spans and will start making comments on the film as soon as they get bored and think they are hilarious and I should be laughing along with them.
In fact, I dont just extend this dislike of other people being around me to the ones I know - often other people in the cinema make some sort of noises - coughing, breathing, rustling of wrappings and even talking.
The best bet is to go to the cinema on your own on a weekday right in the middle of the day so that you avoid all but the most hardcore cinema goers and they know to keep their mouths shut.
The only type of film I like to watch in a group is a comedy, as people are supposed to laugh.
