You may want to check when the rainy season is. I have no idea when it is only I hear it rains continually there when it is full swing. 😉

A friend just returned from India with a tour group, but they were only there for three weeks, and she came home with the Asian flu. She is writing newspaper articles now on the sights. Every day was some new place to visit. My husband was there for 2 1/2 years with the Army Air Force during WW2. (His 89th birthday is in three days). He said nothing can prepare you for the stench. He got to see the Taj Mahal even though a war was on. He was a baseball pitcher before that and had just gone to rookie camp with a professional team when he got drafted. His throwing skill came in handy one day when a cobra slithered toward the barracks. My husband picked up a broken piece of tile and killed it in one pitch as it reared its head up...cobra fashion. When he hung it from the barracks door, the end touched the floor. He was alone at the time, so wanted to show it off for his buddies when they got back. There are some snakes that are even more deadly...like the krake. These are not easily seen. Don't go barefoot! My friend rode an elephant, looked at an excavated temple, visited the Ganges by boat during a yearly celebration. She sent me e-mail every day, telling the names of the cities and all the sights in each one. Watch out for "Bengal Belly"!

how does your visa work going to india? i would have to leave after 3 months (even for just a day) before being allowed back in again unless i paid to get a visa extension.

i've never been to india but what what i've heard from other travelers who have bring a lot of anti diarrhea tablets and if you really what to do it on the cheap because india has so many homeless people there's a lot of places that you can go to get a free meal and you can always sleep in churches, police stations or hospital amongst others if you're really on a budget or just what to see what its like living in poverty india.

what other countries have you been to?

You will get Delhi Belly as they say do to the food being different from the type your used to, so stock up with meds

Ig you get a chance as India is a big place, try going to tghe border with India / Pakistan where they have a "chaning of the guard" show, its quite interesting !!!

Def go to a cricket game if you as the atmospshere is great.

And if you are feeling be "frisky", try seeing the lost Kama Sutra temple which they found n the late 20th centrury.

Other than that, have a great time and a time for the beggers, (as you will be targeted) is to carry lots of cheap pens that you can give to the kids, whist money is ok, a pen helps them to learn....

Right! Delhi belly was the proper term. I just bumped into my friend at the grocery store this afternoon, by the way. Lost alot of weight that way! Hope you have some to spare, jlilly.

So I guess other than the high infection rates, theives, deadly serpants, horrible stinches, and continuous rain at times, it is a great place to travel. 😛

From all I been reading here about India, to me, I know I sound now contradictory to what I posted before, but I'd leave India to the Indians. Thanx but no thanx! PS I'm glad you posted what you did about your up and coming trip there, cause I WAS gonna go there in the near future, but now I'll stay with France, Italy and Spain! Charlotta

That's an unusual way to lose weight! Does it work if you bump into people somewhere else, too, or does it have to be at the grocery store?
