Jaipur, Pushkar for sure when there's a camelmarket going. hundreds of thousnads of camels in a small holy place. Great to stay there for a week or so doing nothing, Jaisalmer with in tact huge city walls, hostels in the walls with splendid view, cows in the narrow streets, beautiful carved houses and from there to Sam on a camel ride through the dessert. Mumbai, Goa and Kerala for the palmbeaches and canals, and fresh lobster and trips with fishermen.
I haven't been very north, but near the Himalaya must be a dream too.

Originally posted by jlillyCan you get a refund? My friend just got home in time. She stayed at a hotel in Mumbai most of the time, and made side trips from there. The breakfast commonly serviced to the tourists every morning was one biscuit (hard cookie) and a cup of tea. Add to that Delhi belly, and Asian flu, and that gal really dropped the pounds.

Originally posted by jlillyI think anyone who is "sick of the USA" deserves to spend a few months in India.

The small town near us has mostly Indian doctors. They have just built a new hospital here. Their dedication and service to our rural communities is appreciated. They serve 8 towns in all... with our town being the hub of the satellite clinics. They have saved my life several times over the past 30 years. The head surgeon was named runner-up "Rural Doctor of the Year" nation-wide a few years ago and was on national television. He has performed about seven surgeries on me, and is loved by everyone, young and old.

I have never been to India, but know a few people who have.
From what I understand, living in India is incredibly cheap, (I know a couple that went for two weeks, stayed in a luxury hotel, with all the extra luxuries, including three meals a day for around $500.)
Also, don't leave your luggage anywhere.
