Here's a list of the last few movies I've watched along with my ratings. Do you have any movies/directors to recommend?

Breaking The Waves: 6.5/10. Much, much too dark for my tastes.
Walkabout: 7/10 Interesting movie, but weak story.
machuca: 8/10 Very good view of Pinochet's coup in Chile as told by kids
Czech Dream: 8.5/10 Very interesting and funny exploration of consumer culture
Moolaade: 6/10 Culturally interesting, but weak acting and story
Dancer In The Dark: 9.5/10 Lars Van Triers best to date. Emotionally brilliant
Brazil: 7/10 Some brilliant moments, and some disctintly mediocre ones
Gandhi: 8.5/10 Excellent show.
Amadeus: 7/10 Interesting and fun, but a little too slow paced
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella ): 9/10 Beautiful movie. Well acted/very funny/very good story
Etre Et Avoir: 9/10 Brilliant documentary about life in a country primary school in rural France.
No Mans Land: 7/10 Good story, but it seems very confused as to whether it is trying to be a comedy or a tragedy.
The Corporation: 9/10 Excellent documentary detailing how the rule of the corporation is affecting our lives and the planet as a whole.
A Very Long Engagement: 7/10 nice movie.
Ong Bak: 7.5/10 Good Muay Thai action movie and rated as such
My Life As A Dog: 8/10 Very quirky movie about a boy growing up in 50's Sweden
Pather Panchali: 6/10 Culturally interesting, but nothing story
Beijing Bicycle: 7.5/10 Nice movie
Rabbit Proof Fence: 8/10 Good movie exploring the acts of genocide committed by the Australian government in the 30s
Cinema Paradiso: 8.5/10 Fantastic movie. Maybe a little drawn out, but enthralling.
Capturing The Friedmans: 8/10 Very interesting documentary about the Friedman family, made all the more interesting by the fact that they had video'd nearly everything of import to the family forever.
Zatoichi: 7/10 Nice story. Not as epic as Hero or Crouching Tiger, et al.
Old Boy: 7.5/10 Very strange Korean story. Worth a watch if you're into action/thrillers.
Baraka: 9.5/10 No actors, no dialogue, sheer brilliance.

From those, I've added The Station Agent, Les Choristes, Hable con Ella to my wishlist at the online movie store.

I've already see Cidade de Deus, which is brilliant. Carandiru is another great Brazillian movie.

I bought Downfall last week, which was very good.

I watched "Rhythm Is It" yesterday (on DVD). A moving documentary about a great project - 250 kids from all kinds of social backgrounds working towards a dance performance of Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring", played by the Berlin Philharmonic. www.rhythmisit.com
