I've been playing chess on RHP for about four months now, but I
continually keep getting my ass kicked because of making poor
tactical decisions. Can anyone recommend a good website that I
might be able to learn more about chess openings and tactics from.

Cheers

Hi Mark,

I have only one link to a web site concerning openings. I picked it up
from an old post somewhere in these forums. Don't know if there is
any better but it's fair enough to get an overview about all the odd
openings out there:

Hi! Not yet mentioned here, unless I've overlooked it... The Chess
Corner 'Learn' and very recommendable Exeter Chess club. Indeed,
the 'Play btter' at chessWorld (letsplaychess.com) is recommended
too. Regards. Jan

Wow, the play better section on www.letsplaychess.com is extremely
helpful. One day soon I might be able to actually play chess!!!!!

Cheers

greetings,
look at www.chesscafe.com --- a great site containing chess columns
on openings, endgames, and chess events.

Besides the sites mentioned by others here, check out
www.letsplaychess.com. They have a menu item named "Play Better,"
which has several topics to study for improved play.

Give them a try. They along with www.chesscafe.com are my favorites.

One thing you might try Mark is the ole "if you can't beat 'em, join
them" approach. I've gotten some good lessons from those who have
kicked my ass as well. There's a lot that I don't understand about
theory, but there are some willing teachers on the site, T1000 (Mark)
and Schliemann (Dave) just to name a few. Good luck. Kirk

If anyone is willing to teach me let me know. The times I can play are
a bit erratic though, as I can only access RHP from my university
library, and they frown upon online chess whilst people are trying to
write essays (wasters!!!!!!)
