Damn. this by far is my favorite thread.😀 Garth Ennis is absolutely brilliant. I dont think I have read anything crappy by this man. Preacher was one of the consistently best reads of the nineties. Garths dynamic writing which mixed heavy theological issues of faith and humor were priceless. Plus coming up with new ways to humiliate Herr Starr...priceless.

Haven't heard of Preacher before.

Kind of new to the graphic novel scene, started with MAUS, left, came back with the new compiled editions of Sin City.

Highly recomend. Lots of dialogue though, and some metaphysical. So you don't mind that then you might really enjoy it

I'm surprised The Watchmen seems to have been dismissed so quickly. In my opinion it is one of the greatest works of graphic story telling ever. The story is vast, dark and has great suspense. The characters are solid and whilst the artwork itself is not as intricate as say Sandman, this is not to its detriment. Besides, it boasts Dr Manhatten, the most powerful superhero ever and that's gotta count for something.

If you haven't read it and you like to think you're into graphic novels, then you should rectify this gross omission of material immediately. Also worth reading V for Vendetta too.

The Watchmen has been on my to read list for like...forever. What a shmeful comic geek am I for I have not read this masterpiece. Mabey you can lend me your copy? My great horror is that someone turns it into a crappy movie. Does Alan Moore have a say in that?

I would be more afraid of Uwe Bolle than any other director movie wise...even though he seems to stick to movie adaptations, comics could be on th elist next...

C'mon, they're comics, just keep flipping the pages...From Hell should haunt you to the grave...

Speaking of comics rather than graphic novels, check out the great Robert Crumb. I'm still disturbed.

Let me add that Maus I & II are indeed great. I don't know if there are any more.

Ive seen the movie(From Hell) I don't know how it compares to the comic, which I'll read someday. And unfortunately I've never read anything by Mr. Crumb:'( maybe I'll google him and check him out.

The comic is infinitely better than the film...it's a blockbuster.

Enjoy hunting for Crumb! You should get a lotta thrills & laffs.

One of my favourite graphic novels/comic books is Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters (Mike Grell). This one often gets overlooked in favour of the big name books, but I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Off the top of my head, I'd recommend all the following:
Watchmen
V for Vendetta
Preacher series
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Sandman series
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
Batman Year One
Cerebus series
One Hundred Bullets series
Batman: The Killing Joke
Sin City series
Hellblazer series
Dark Horse Presents anthologies
