I need to get a good graphics card for my computer. It has to be Direct X 8.1 compatible so I can play flight simulators and MMORPGs. I especially am considering Guild Wars. Any advice? I'm poor, so I want to keep the cost down, but I want a quality item.

Any graphics card that was made in the last 5 years should support Direct X 8.1 and higher. How much budget are we talking about?

I'd like to keep it under $100 if possible, but I have an idea I may have to spend as much as $200.

Right now I have the Intel® 82845G Graphics Controller, which is a horrible POS.

It looks like it's an AGP x4 card supporter, so I'm guessing you could turn off the internal graphics and add something like this:

http://www.asenashop.com/ivn/pr-0/7409.html

It supports Direct X 9.0 so you'll be fine there. Lower models will be cheaper, but less effective. Also, make sure that whatever you buy is not higher than AGP x4, they will not be supported by your motherboard.

Also, once you've chosen a model, shop around noting prices, $189 seems high to me.

Be careful. If your power supply isn't up to it, your machine could explode.

What do you mean by "turn off the internal graphics"?
