Since Joe Fist, Darv, and I hijacked the other football thread, I thought I'd post a new one, to try and save face.

I guess we should reluctantly mention the Steelers, the Packers, the Broncos, and now the Patriots.

Sorry? What's good about the Vikings? The fact that they collapse at the end of every year?
The best thing the Vikings recently did was to get rid of Randy Moss. He was bad for them and he is bad for the league.

Now let's discuss how great the Bills will be maybe not this year but definitely next year if, that is, their rookie QB doesn't turn out to be a big bust and if mcgahee can prove that he can stay healthy.

And you're right, the Vikings have talent, and they win games...but they have the Buffalo Bills syndrome of choking at the end of each season. Very true.
Originally posted by Shanshu311Right about him being a punk. Truthfully I think he has more raw ability than Rice did at his age but I doubt he will grab any records in his career because of his self-destructive attitude. Probably the same with T.O. but he is nowhere near as bad as Moss.

I don't really follow the NFL as much as I used to so do the Bills look good this year?

Originally posted by Joe FistThe Bills finished off the year in spectacular fashion last season but were just short of the playoffs (the wild card spot went to the undeserving Broncos). In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a Steelers fan...
Gotta go with the Steelers of the 70s...mainly because I think that they faced the toughest competition, not only in their Super Bowls, but in the AFC as well...
Super Bowl 9 - (Jan 1975) defeated Minnesota...Minnesota was a legitimately great team, with an awesome defense...final score was 16-6... Steelers led 2-0 at halftime. Held the Vikings to 17 yards rushing.
Super Bowl 10 - (Jan 1976) - Defeated Dallas 21-17... Dallas was up 10-7 at halftime, and still led 10-9 after 3 qtrs, I believe... Bradshaw led the Steelers to 4 scores in the space of 8 minutes to take a 21-10 lead.. a late TD Pass by Staubach made it 21-17... Game is remembered for Lynn Swann making the greatest catch in SB history, and for the 64 yard TD pass from TB to Swann on the play in which Bradshaw was knocked out of the game with a concussion.
Super Bowl 13 - (Jan 1979) Defeated Dallas again 35-31 in the first SB rematch... Incredible # of great players on both sides... Bradshaw's 4 TD passes won him the MVP award. (The entire Steeler roster of this team was composed only of Pittsburgh-drafted players...no trades, no free agents).
Super Bowl 14 - (Jan 1980) Most surprising SB of all up to that time... the Rams played one of the guttsiest games ever and led after every quarter (except the 4th, of course)...game saw 7 lead changes... Bradshaw to Stallworth for 73 yard 4th Qtr TD won the game...
Even given this, I think the teams that challenged the Steelers during those years (esp the Raiders and Cowboys, and later, the Houston Oilers for a couple of years) were great teams themselves, and the Raiders and Cowboys, especially, would have dominated a lot of eras...they just happened to have the misfortune of having their best years at the same time the Steelers did...
Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris(I believe he was the 2nd leading all time rusher at the time of his retirement), Lynn Swann, John Stallworth (every bit as good as Jerry Rice in big games, although Rice IS the best ever over his career), the late Mike Webster, Mean Joe Green, Jack Ham, Jack Lambert, CB Mel Blount, and Coach Chuck Noll...all Hall of Famers... (I may have left someone out, I'm not sure).
And, as much as I hated the Cowboys at that time, I kind of feel bad for them today, because I think they probably had more players deserving of hall of fame recognition that actually received it...and it probably has to do with losing the two SBs to the Steelers...
And, while I loved watching the 49ers during the 80s, I can't quite put them on the Steelers level... I don't see a whole bunch of HOFers when I see those 49ers teams... Montana is the best QB ever IMO, and RIce is the best WR ever (in everyone's opinion)...who else? Ronnie Lott... Has anyone else from those 49ers teams made the HOF yet? Is Randy Cross in?
The 49ers SB victories came against the Bengals (twice), the Chargers (ugh) , the Broncos and the Dolphins... I guess the Dolphins may have been the best SB team they played, and they handled them pretty easily... and it's certainly not the 49ers fault that the rest of the league wasn't up to their level... but the Steelers HAD to play great football to beat the cowboys, raiders, etc, while the 49ers could afford to have a bad game and sill win the SB, due to the inferior competition they faced... (The Bengals gave them the two toughest games, Montana to Taylor in the second one, and a 26-21 final the first time - nearly blowing a 20-0 lead, but saving the game with a legendary goal line stand on all 4 downs).
Cowboys of early 90s were a great team, easily the best of the 90s I would say... Be an interesting match up to see them play the Patriots of today...
Anyway, every era has it's great teams, and that's the fun part about these kinds of discussions...
The Packers of the 60s, imo, couldn't match up physically with later teams... players are getting bigger and stronger (for whatever reasons) all the time...
