@lemondrop saidAn impossible ask. It's like Sofie's Choice.
this will be hard
must choose one
and only one
my choice
Stairway to Heaven
Which child do I love best? The question leads to madness.
If not crossing so many generations and rock boundaries; it would be considerably easier.
Certainly, Zeppelin and Hendrix are right at the top with those two songs.
But then there's this:

In fact I had never heard of the band before, but Ilike the song.

Stairway to Heaven
When I was a teenager, in the 1970s, we used to go out to the drive-in movies. In the summertime, we'd all have the windows down and put the radios on -- no one actually listened to the movies then, we just needed a place to go where it was relatively safe to smooch and smoke pot. There were three rock radio stations in the area, so you can imagine the cacophony of music blaring from all the car windows. Whenever one station played Stairway to Heaven, one after the other, all the cars in the movie lot would switch to THAT station to THAT song until the entire lot was blasting Led Zep. No other song had that pull.
Stairway to Heaven gets my vote.
@cheesemaster saidthere is a very interesting story about the lead singer
