greatest rock song of all time

greatest rock song of all time

General

I just read it.
Interesting story 🤔
OJ basically admitted it later so what was the lead singer going on about?
No later follow up?
I really hate mysteries that have no ending.

An impossible ask. It's like Sofie's Choice.

Which child do I love best? The question leads to madness.

If not crossing so many generations and rock boundaries; it would be considerably easier.

Certainly, Zeppelin and Hendrix are right at the top with those two songs.

But then there's this:

This is exactly correct and @wolfe63 asks a good question: which songs are candidate moves? The op thought experiment was "greatest rock song of all time".

I suggested Won't Get Fooled Again. Correct or incorrect, it would be hard to argue it is not a candidate move.

I like both Hendrix and Lynyrd Skynyrd so far in this discussion as the probable winners. Here are some more candidate moves - please excuse the ads.

What makes them the best, exactly?

Is it the ridiculous amount of plagiarism that they’ve committed? Or the fact that Robert Plant was only a good rock singer for a few years? Or maybe the fact that Jimmy Page was an incredibly sloppy player (or do we call that “improv”?)

Or is it that you’ve heard other people claim they’re the best and have simply copied that for lack of an own opinion?

Shouldn’t forget their genius performance at Live Aid:

What a band!!

"Dream On" is definitely on the list. Great selection!

I'll have a couple of other candidates as well, when time permits.

It’s hard to have one song consistently at the top.
There can be several considerations for number one, perhaps on a rotating basis.
I’ll list a few that can be considered for the top spot.
Feel free to add your own.
In no particular order

Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Hey Jude - Beatles
Imagine - John Lennon
Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
Can’t get no Satisfaction - Rolling Stones

This list is fluid and dynamic. Go !!
