Stocken's dictonary excerpt of the day:
Hacker - A person who breaks into other computers without doing any harm. Often for the sole purpose of uncovering security issues and improve software.
Cracker - A person who breaks into other computers for the sole purpose of breaking their systems or accessing and using sensitive information.

If you want to be a hacker, all you really have to do is learn everything there is to know about network protocols, locate the necessary sniffers, learn to program and then try to break into other systems using all the ingenius ideas you get. It's not hard, but time-consuming.
There is a third term: scriptkid. Here's a complete dummy using pre-written code to access systems with known security issues still unfixed. Unfortunately, a scriptkid can do a lot of damage without even realising it. 😕
