Nothing helps when you have a hangover.
A hangover is alcohol poisoning and dehydration.
Alcohol breaks down Vitamins: C, B6 and B12
C is found in citrus fruits and B6 and B12 in red meats
BEFORE you get a hangover it's best to drink a liter of orange juice (this gets fluid into your body and compensates for the breakdown of vitamin C.
You will then have a chance of overting the headache part of the hangover.
The nausiating part...alas.
Obviously painkillers can ease the pain a little and motion sickness tablets can ease the nausia.
Check your painkiller before you use them. Lots of them affect the liver. You don't want to use a painkiller which affects the liver when you have a hangover (alcohol also affects the liver, and you don't want your liver wasting time breaking down anything else!). Paracetemol affect the liver, for example.
Aspirine affects the stomach. So for a hangover, aspirine is the better option.
The hair of the dog method is based on withdrawl symptoms.
When you're drunk your body is used to the alcohol, when you have a hangover, besides being dehydrated and poisoned, your body gets withdrawl symptoms (much like heroin users, but in a far smaller way).
So, using alcohol to combat the hangover gets rid of these symptoms (eases the body) and the alcohol will get you drunk enough to forget you have a hangover. Needless to say it's not good on the liver, it increases the poisoning and it increases the physical dependency.
Only do the hair of the dog when you have to go out and party again... and don't do it often!
Once your hangover has subsided eat lots of citrus fruit. Drink milk (to compensate for the acidity in your stomach) and eat beef. Not overcooked, but bloody as hell.
So, if you don't need to work: 2 aspirines (or 1 if you weigh less than 65 kilograms) and 1 sea-sickness tablet. Lots of water and orange juice and then go and lie down on bed. The motion sickness tablet generally makes you a little drowsy and you may be able to get some sleep.
Party on.

I remember seeing commercials for pills that will do the trick though. Maybe someone could Google it.... someone other than Seraphimvulture.
So, Seraphimvulture, pray tell....what does coffee do to elimante hangovers then??
I do, personally, like a very strong espresso if I have a hangover. It gets the disgusting taste of alcohol out of my mouth.
But, that is about it.

You take one pill every two or three beers and they basically absorb the alcohol.
I believe they were created by the KGB.
I reckon eating half a pack of butter after every two or three beers will have the same effect. Not good for the arteries though.

I can totally reccommend the following:
Before you sink into unconsciousness the night before, drink at least a pint of water. Obviously this won't help now, but next time... Then in the morning, take Alka Seltzer XS, not only because it contains paracetamol to aid the pain, but it will buffer the acidity in your stomach and has caffeine in it to make you feel a little more alive. Try and keep it down as long as possible, it will probably eventually make you throw up, but that's the real key, in doing so it removes a lot of gunk and you should be able to keep water down after that. About an hour later, try having some dry, slightly burnt toast, the charcoal will help your stomach. Keep sipping small amounts of water regularly and if you keep the toast down, follow it up with some fruit a vitamin pill and more paracetamol when time allows. Then have an afternoon nap and eat when you wake up. You should feel a lot better by then.
