It is -4 right now, and when we 'fall back' I'll be -5 to keep my time right.

Shouldn't that be IST? From Wikipedia:

"Western European Summer Time is also known by other names:

* British Summer Time or British Standard Time (BST) in the United Kingdom.
* Irish Standard Time (Am Caighdeánach na hÉireann) or Irish Summer Time (Am Samhraidh na hÉireann) (IST/ACÉ/ASÉ ) in Ireland."

Well, you all know that DST is "Daylight Savings Time", right? It says on Wikipedia that North America and Europe commonly use it...I've never heard of BST and IST...I thought it was all called DST...

No, we use Summer Time. BST in the UK, IST in Ireland (the republic), CEST in Central Europe.

Not sure where it started, but they started doing it for the farmers I hear. Farmers get up early every day to start work, and need lighting to do their job. It would be dark when they got up around harvest time, so they set the clocks back an hour making it light early in the day rather than late at night.

Where in Wikipedia does it say that the term Daylight Saving Time is used in Europe? Not here in any case:

i thought that the winter time was the 'correct' time and that they changed the clocks forward just to give everyone an extra hour of light at night.
