Reccing insults is an RHP tradition. It isn't so much about reccing insults as reccing a friend insulting a non-friend. The insult doesn't even have to be a good one as long as it comes from the "right" person and attacks the "wrong" person.

Imagine a character who has been kicked from this very site for engine use in the past. He threatens to make up whole new characters to return, saying some of his characters you'll hate, some you'll like.
He's an engine user, and for a lot of engine users, low self esteem seems to be a major issue. Therefore, this creature craves attention, needs attention. Even negative attention is better than no attention.
He returns with 3+ characters. He is patient. He creates the characters months apart to avoid suspicion. He works on how they spell/write, creating an illiterate incarnation, a smiley incarnation, and a big words incarnation, or some such variances. Then he sets to work, but he purposefully sets himself up to fail. His best playing character gives the game away from day 1. Remember, the negative attention of being banned is the best kind of attention. Much better than the attention he gets by purposely annoying 99% of the people he encounters in the forums, although this is also good, as their responses validate his existance.
He looks through the forums for a while, and tries to identify apparently weak people in the forums. He then uses at least one of his characters to befriend them, using lines like "I'm like you. I can help you". Thus, he earns their trust, and with a combination of his characters he gets them to divulge personal information about themselves, which feeds his sick needs. Hopefully, his sick needs only extend to getting attention on an internet forum whatever way he can, and not to anything more sinster and real.
Hypothetically speaking... the only way to stop this is to ban the ringleader (after thorough investigation of course). Then his other characters would know that this particular game was up, and they'd disband the clan and hopefully leave the site. Probably returning with new aliases, but hey.
While this is only a hypothetical, it is based on past occurances, and utterances. Think Miss Hope and think Trackhead. I sure hope it doesn't happen again, as the Miss Hope affair got very messy, and a lot of people got burned.
